Q: I have only flown airplanes with tricycle gear. A taildragger
makes me a little nervous. Will I have a hard time transitioning to a taildragger?
A: The Talon is a docile
taildragger. Some taildraggers are short-coupled and can be a handful,
but the Talon has a long moment arm, making it easy to learn for an inexperienced
pilot. The vast majority of pilots transition in only one or two hours.
It’s been said, “Once you fly a taildragger you will never go back”.
Although the learning curve is slightly longer to master
a taildragger, it shouldn’t be thought of as “hard”. The reality is that
it’s more difficult to teach a pilot who has only flown nose-gear airplanes
to fly a taildragger, than it is to teach a novice. Either way, with a little
practice most anyone can master the taildragger without incident.
